Thumb CMC Denervation

Thumb denervation is a modern, motion-preserving surgical alternative for treating thumb CMC (basal joint) arthritis. Based on detailed anatomic mapping of the joint's sensory pathways, this procedure involves the meticulous isolation and excision of specific pain-carrying nerve fibers. The nerves are identified and cauterized through a small incision.

By selectively addressing only the joint’s sensory branches, this technique provides significant pain relief without altering joint mechanics or sacrificing skin sensation.

Because it is a soft-tissue-only procedure that leaves the joint structure intact, recovery is exceptionally fast—typically requiring only a few weeks for the incision to heal.

While a promising option for many, candidacy is determined on a case-by-case basis during your clinical evaluation. CLICK HERE for more detailed information.
